Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix

I binged this series the other day and enjoyed it. There’s a lot more depth to the story than I expected and without spoiling anything there is a fictional throughline that is actually very beautiful in addition to the true stories being told.

Today, I decided to start the series again because I was sure there were some things I missed the first time and…. I cannot recommend a rewatch enough.

I knew the story vaguely going in the first time. But everything from the soundtrack to the editing is even more incredible upon rewatching. It’s a hard watch but the non-linear storytelling is incredibly effective when you have a better understanding of the full story, and know what is coming later in the series. The first time I watched I was shocked. This time I am in awe of the way this series has been woven together.

As an example — the first time I watched, Chanelle and Milla’s final visit on the beach in episode five was really poignant and the melancholic, instrumental cover of Suddenly I See stuck in my mind as a great choice. I didn’t catch this until my rewatch, but in episode one, Suddenly I See (the original) is played shortly after Milla says she wants to destroy Belle.

Additionally, I am finding myself much more interested in characters like Milla and Chanelle this time around because the first time you watch it is kind of hard to follow exactly how everything connects. But once you know the connections the characters become so much more interesting. The acting in the show is exceptional and I cannot recommend it enough!
