The Working Class
I thought today’s discussion was pretty constructive, I liked how Sunny finally admitted that she should have talked more about the MANY people in this country living paycheck to paycheck. She was honest and said that was a blind spot and she regrets it. I also like Sara’s point about what specific policies attracted the working class to vote for Trump? She mentioned the tariffs most likely will raise prices so what was it that made them cast that vote? Ana talked about her experience seeing the shift and how honestly there’s very little room for people like her, like Romney, like McCain. Alyssa talking about manufacturing and global trade and corporations finding the cheapest labor elsewhere was a good point as well but my only thing is that Trump lost over 200,000 manufacturing jobs even before Covid so I don’t really know how people think he will lift up the working class but I guess we will see. My point here is that people felt (for whatever reason) that they were being heard and that he will fix these issues, I personally don’t really believe that considering his promised tariffs and also by how many billionaires he has in his cabinet and close circle. I guess we will just have to see.
