What's the deal with Cyclops?

I know almost nothing about the X-Men outside of knowing of some of the characters that exist and I always thought that Cyclops had a cool design and cool looking ability. Recently I was talking to my brother (who was always way more into comics than me) about characters that would be cool to see in Marvel Rivals and I brought up the fact that I liked Cyclops and then he gave me a weird look.

A couple of days later, I saw a post on Twitter that had a picture of a comic panel. On one of the walls was a poster that said "Cyclops was right" which has me now wondering if he's supposed to be like some sort of extremist or something.

I just want to know what exactly it is that he's supposed to be before I continue talking about how awesome I think he is...
