I found a bus in a swamp in Lapland, trying to find out what model and more info on it if you could help? I was told it could have belonged to Veljekset Salmela Oy. Seemed to have been dragged there during winter and used by hunters. Very "Into the wild" vibe off it! The mosquitoes were insane.....

The start of a post and beam pavilion project. I will be hand hewing all the major components for it. This first piece is a king post. This video is 18mins sped up to 1min. The full log took just under 2 hours in total to make including breaks. About 50 linear meters more to hew. This log was 2.7m.

Complete hewing from start to finish on one side of this pine king post, part of a pavilion I am building. That is about 18 minutes of work squeezed to 1 minute. Full log to about 2 hours to make (I needed breaks!) I have about 60 more linear meters to hew the same way.

Getting back into swinging an axe after a long break! Hard work but fun, today I hewed this little beam in about 2 hours. Got an upcoming project which requires 12 5m long beams, 20cmX20cm. I used a goosewing to finish.

Well boys, I was out walking in the Lapland wilderness yesterday and it looks like I crossed paths with a Samsquanch. He must have been close, the air smelled like Kemi on a hot day. Stay safe folks!

What was going to be firewood is now a home. A six minute birdhouse. 3 pieces of wood, 9 nails, one bungee strap. Made from a piece of an old log cabin. I could maybe do it with 2 pieces of wood?, but would take longer to hollow out the main body. Can it be simplified further?

Renovating in log cabins is very much fun. The easiest buildings to make changes in, just chainsaw a door ope, whack the logs out and then cut in support jamb and infill. Easy peasy and very satisfying!

I made a multi-purpose swing chair. Had some left over wood and a couple of days to kill. 3.7m high and pretty solid.

Some pics of the curved shelter made from logs I just finished building. Fun project, very challenging to move the 800kg beast around. It was made in two halves, then joined as one. It is notched into the collar tie / floor beam to prevent spreading. This joint also allows for wood shrinkage. Like?

Instead of the "Finland is so expensive" type post often found here, is it possible to have a post of things here which would be the opposite?

My curved shelter (laavu in Finnish) is nearing completion! Made from 5" thick logs. She weights about 800kgs all in. What do you guys think? I can do a full build post if there is any interest. This will reside in north Finland!

I am making a Laavu, wanted a well known Finnish symbol integrated into it, so I picked this one! Good choice? It will be mounted inside the laavu, on the back wall.

The way she goes. I am back home in Ireland, had this head hung by a local for me last year. I used it for all of 14 seconds to fell a tree and she gave up. It was hung on Ash which is normally top notch, but the grain run out looks terrible. RIP.

Work in progress. A solid wood curved shelter. 5 inch thick logs. Bolted, pegged and glued together. It is self supporting and weighs about 700kgs. Got loads left to do, but the most fun I have had on a project in a long time!

First half of my Finnish Laavu (lean-to shelter) is together. 5 inch thick pine logs grown in Lapland! 1.5m high, 3.5m wide and 2.4m deep. It will be self supporting once completed.
