Key West is its own island and "village". Once you get there, there isn't a ton that you'll want to drive to. Honestly, parking is a pain and everything in old town is walkable.

Two nights in KW is all I want. The drive from Miami is what the whole trip is about. Just take your time and go from one tiki bar to the next. We usually just wear swim suits and hit a beach when the mood strikes. Usually Stay a night or two in Key Largo to hit Bahia Honda state park and make sure to find a place close to John Pennekamp park for some snorkeling. There are some good "locals" places through the keys but my favorite is the Ocean View in Islamorada. It has a few rooms that are pretty nice and a pool that faces the gulf. Islamorada is known as that " quaint little drinking village with a fishing problem". Several other good places close by. So just take your time and enjoy the drive.

I use min wax for floors, oil base poly, and it takes longer to dry but it's worth it
